Weekend Brunch #9: Egyptian Egg and Beans

August 30, 2015

Egyptian-Egg-and-beansIt’s ‘back to school’ time and, although I haven’t been in education for (gulp) a number of years now, I always feel the kind of anticipation for the downwards turn towards the end of the year and all of the delights that brings (roasted meats, baked cheeses, more mulled alcoholic drinks than I can even comprehend at the minute (guess who has already started drafting Christmas party menu ideas?). We’re not quite there yet, however and so as we prepare to travel the long road into Autumn, I’m reminded to hang on to as many Summer flavours as I can, for as long as I can. I can think of no better meal to do this in than brunch and no better ingredient to use but my legume-y friends, chickpeas and broad beans. Read more…

Middle Eastern Chickpeas with Tabbouleh

August 23, 2015

Following the excesses of our delicious Empire Roast Lamb (the leftovers of which were devoured Nigella style by the light of the fridge), we felt it prudent to move back to safer, healthier, vegetarian dishes for a little while. Read more…

Further vegetarian brunch adventures. Not sure what’s come over us but somehow CB and I can’t get over the vegetable+cheese+egg combination. Read more…

Weekend Brunch #7: Herby Ricotta Pancakes

The truth is, I’ve become one of those intolerable Londoners who can scarcely get through a weekend without at least the promise of brunch. Read more…

Courgette and Goat’s Cheese Carbonara

July 19, 2015

As a life-long compulsive orderer, there are a couple of things that I can guarantee:

1. My (very mild) lactose intolerance is never ever a factor in the cheese vs more cheese debate

2. If there’s carbonara on the menu, 9.7/10, it’s getting ordered.

Chicken Tikka Masala

July 12, 2015

chicken-tikka-masala I don’t know that it’s possible to overstate how fond the Great British Public is of a Good Curry. Chicken tikka masala, in particular, has its supposed origins in a hybrid of authentic chicken tikka (pieces) and a can of Campbell’s tomato soup which is surely evidence that the great colonial experiment was successful…
